Dr Susanne Coleman: NIHR Post-Doc Research Fellow and Risk Assessment Project Lead

Biography: Susanne Coleman qualified as a registered general nurse in 1991 and worked for the NHS till 2008. She worked clinically in acute elderly care medicine, held senior nursing roles to develop clinical practice in the acute sector and was a clinical governance manager and contract manager in primary care. Susanne also has experience of managing a disabled living centre and mobility centre in the voluntary sector.
Since October 2008 Susanne has worked at Leeds Institute of Clinical Trials Research (LICTR) and led the NIHR PURPOSE risk assessment work package to develop a new evidence based decision tool for the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, while undertaking a related PhD which she completed in October 2014. The work led to Susanne receiving the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) 2015 Novice Investigator Award in recognition of early career achievements relevant to pressure ulcers and the Project team winning the Journal of Wound Care 2015 Wound Assessment and Diagnostics Award recognising innovation and excellence in research and practice.
More recently Susanne led a Pressure Ulcer and Wounds Audit (PUWA) considering the accuracy of PU monitoring systems in NHS in-patient facilities in England. Susanne has recently been awarded a NIHR Post-Doc Fellowship and is planning a Realist Evaluation of Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment Instruments.
