Prof. Dimitri Beeckman is a Professor in Nursing Science at the University Centre for Nursing and Midwifery, Department of Public Health, Ghent University, Belgium. He is also a Visiting Professor at the School of Health Sciences at the University of Surrey (UK). Prof. Beeckman’s doctoral research centered on pressure ulcer prevention and on the prevention and treatment of incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD). He continues to focus on development and psychometric testing of instruments to measure outcomes of nursing interventions related to skin care. He specialized in pressure ulcer prevention, healthcare education, implementation science, the development and psychometric evaluation of instruments to measure outcomes of healthcare interventions, and in testing complex healthcare interventions. He was appointed as advisor of the Belgian Federal Counsel for the Quality of Nursing Activities during the development of indicators for measuring the quality of nursing care. He is Consulting Editor of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing as well as Associate Editor of BMC Geriatrics. He holds several editorial board memberships of international journals and is reviewer for many international high impact journals in the field of nursing and medicine. Prof. Beeckman holds different Fellowships such as Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the European Academy of Nursing Science. Prof. Beeckman is currently the Chair of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel Scientific Committee and European representative in the International Skin Tears Advisory Panel (ISTAP).
