Christopher Nester, UK

Professor Chris Nester is a Podiatrist by first degree and now leads Foot and Ankle Research in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Salford, UK. Chris has published over 100 journals papers, had 19 PhD students complete their studies, and led projects with colleagues in the USA, China, Australia and across Europe. 

Chris has secured over £6.3 million in research funds including EU projects focussed on the design of footwear and foot orthoses (SSHOES, SMARTPIF, SOHEALTHY and INGA projects) and evaluation of medical devices for wound healing (FLOWOX). Sponsorship from the UK government Technology Strategy Board (INNOVATE UK), NHS innovation funds and direct industry sponsorship have focussed on development, evaluation and implementation of foot health technologies. In 2016 he and Dr Stewart Morrison (University of Brighton) launched the GREAT FOUNDATIONS initiative, promoting a better understanding of children’s feet and foot health, supported by £1.5Million in funds over 5 years. Chris continues to be a member of the Steering Committee for the International Foot and Ankle Biomechanics Community.
