Professor Barbara Conway is the Head of Pharmacy at the University of Huddersfield, leading a team of academics focusing on pharmaceutical formulation and delivery. Her major research interests involve development of oral, buccal and transdermal drug delivery systems, the design of modified release systems for drug delivery, including the development of mucoadhesives, fast-dissolving and chewing gum formulations and the enhancement of solubility and dissolution for poorly soluble drugs. Current research programmes focus on strategies to improve skin antisepsis, novel excipients for formulation and drug targeting, particle engineering of drugs and excipients, and nanodissolution.
She has published her research in internationally peer-reviewed pharmaceutics journals, holds GB and International patents and has presented her work at both national and international conferences. To date, she has supervised 35 PhD students, is an experienced examiner and undergraduate and PhD level, has written 8 book chapters and over 160 conference abstracts. She is on the editorial board of five pharmaceutical journals and is editor-in-chief of the new British Journal of Pharmacy. She is a strong supporter of collaborative approach to delivering the best potential outcome for patients and has strong links with other leading academic researchers, industrialists, clinicians and healthcare practitioners.
